The tenant may want to speak to the landlord about the situation. If the tenant wants to leave, and the landlord wants to do renovations, then they may be able to come up with an agreement about ending the tenancy. If it is a monthly periodic tenancy, then the tenant can provide the landlord with one month’s written notice to end the tenancy. On the other hand, if it is a fixed term tenancy and if the landlord does not want the tenant to move out, the the tenant should clarify what renovations the landlord is planning on doing.
