   From downtown Ottawa to Kanata is about 22 km so take about 18 to 25 min. depending on the traffic in the summertime. During rush-hour traffic you could probably add another half an hour to that time. However, in the wintertime that's a different story. I've personally spent over 1.5hrs getting from the downtown core to Kanata. My worst time (so far) was 2.5hrs thanks to a very big snowstorm.  It's not the distance, it's the limited visibility as well as the limited skill and/or cautious drivers on the road at that time.
